Is Delta-9 the same as THC?

Delta-9 and THC are the same thing. When someone says THC without a qualifier in a conversation, on a product label, in a drug test report  they mean Delta-9. It’s the primary cannabinoid that produces the psychoactive effect and it’s the compound standard drug panels are built to detect.

THC is actually a family of related molecules. Delta-8, Delta-9, Delta-10, THCP, THCA all are technically forms of THC, each with different potency and different behavior in the body. Delta-9 is the most studied and the most abundant in the cannabis plant. THCP is newer, far less common, and binds to receptors with significantly higher affinity than Delta-9 which is why JustKana formulates its vape carts with both.

The distinction that matters most for buyers: hemp-derived Delta-9 is the same molecule as marijuana-derived Delta-9, but hemp products contain far less of it than dispensary cannabis. The legal difference comes from how much THC is present in the plant not from any difference in the compound itself.

For drug testing, none of that distinction matters. The metabolites your body produces from hemp-derived Delta-9 are chemically identical to those from marijuana. A standard immunoassay test has no way to tell the difference. Legal source does not mean negative result.
